New LOX Album Won't Come Out On Diddy's Bad Boy

'We gave him a shot at it,' Jadakiss tells 'Sway in the Morning.'By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Styles P and Jadakiss of the LOX Photo: Phil McCarten/ Getty Images There will be a new LOX album, eventually, but it won't be released on Diddy's Bad Boy Records. "Nah, we went over there, we gave him a shot at it," Jadakiss told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway when he appeared on his "Sway in the Morning" satellite radio show on Tuesday (May 8). In 1998, the LOX — comprised of 'Kiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch — released their debut album, Money, Power, Respect, with the house that Diddy built, but their relationship soon soured. When it came time to drop their sophomore LP, We Are the Streets, the LOX made the move to Ruff Ryders Entertainment. It's been 12 years since the Yonkers, New York, trio dropped an album, and they have since reconciled with Puff, but there are hurdles standing in the way of future business between both parties. "He wanted to do it, but I don't think contractually with all of the forces, we weren't able to do it, but he's still the big homie," Jada said, without revealing where the group may sign. Since making their initial move away from Bad Boy, each group member went on to sign separate solo deals, making any would-be agreement for a new LOX album very tricky. During an August 2011 interview, Styles P tried to break things down. "It's a lot of heads involved with the new LOX album. You got Ruff Ryders, you got Bad Boy, you got Interscope. It's a lot of politics in one set of paperwork, but it's gettin' close," the Ghost said several months ago. Though the Bad Boy deal is off the table, 'Kiss and company will forever be tied to the storied label. It was there where they first learned to refine their raw rhyme talent and craft hit records. The crew has often credited the Notorious B.I.G. with their development, so when Sway asked Jada about his thoughts on a prospective Biggie holographic performance, similar to the Tupac stunt Dr. Dre pulled at Coachella last month, Mr. So Raspy was all for it. "It cost a lot, so I think Diddy with his connection to Interscope and Jimmy, I still think he got the resources to do a Big joint whenever he goes out to do a big tour; that'll be cool," Jadakiss said. "I think it was good for the 'Pac lovers and for these young cats that ain't really get the chance to see him or understand him. But I think if they gonna do it, we should try to do Big L, Pun — let's do all of the fallen soldiers of hip-hop and let the people get a chance to see 'em at one of these big venues." Catch MTV News' Sway Calloway on "Sway in the Morning," on SiriusXM Radio's Shade 45, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon ET.

Katy Perry Wraps New Video For Complete Confection Track

'3rd long ass day of shooting ... the new music video!!!!!' she tweeted about her latest splashy visual.By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Getty Images Katy Perry has some news for her Katy Cats. She just wrapped up production on a brand-spankin'-new music video. The singer tweeted about the shoot, teasing that the video will play some part in her forthcoming 3-D big-screen spectacle "Katy Perry: Part of Me," out in July. "3rd long ass day of shooting ... the new music video!!!!! #workinggirl," she tweeted late Wednesday. "About to shoot one of the last scenes for the music video ... I have to pick a costume from the Cali Dreams Tour, which would u pick? #KP3D." While she didn't specify for which track she was shooting the video, when she sat down with MTV News in March, she noted that she did have a video concept in mind for her Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection track "Wide Awake." "I know exactly what that music video is. I know exactly who is directing it. I know the art direction, the people, the narrative," she explained. "And I had that idea while I was writing the song." In the same interview, Perry talked about the dreamy breakup track. "Well, there were two songs that I had from Teenage Dream that I couldn't put on, it was 'Part of Me' and 'Dressing Up.' And then I knew we were doing the re-release and so I was like, 'I got to get in the studio,' because I can't wait eight months to be able to put out this feeling that I'm feeling right now," she said. " 'Cause God knows, it would take eight months to do another record. I couldn't do it on the fly, to set up records it takes time. "So I was like, 'I'm getting into studio.' I had two days to write and I wrote it with my regular crew," she said of working with Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Bonnie McKee for the song. "Then I had two days to record. It was literally ... I submitted the lyrics before I submitted the music because it was by the hair of my chinny chin chin that I put that song on the record. But I have a film that's coming out in the summer that's like a concert documentary. Not only did I write the song because I needed to flush that out of my system, but I wrote it for the film as well." Related Videos MTV First: Katy Perry's 'Part Of Me' Related Artists Katy Perry

Diddy Says G. Dep's Murder Conviction Is 'A Shame'

'It all stemmed from substance abuse,' Combs says in response to G. Dep's second-degree murder charge.By Carter Maness G. Dep Photo: Denise Truscello/ WireImage Not long after Diddy turned heads at Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group press conference on Wednesday, he appeared on Funkmaster Flex's Hot 97 radio show and addressed the recent tribulations of two of his former Bad Boy artists: G. Dep and Mase. According to Diddy, G. Dep, who was recently convicted of second-degree murder on a 1993 shooting charge stemming from a botched robbery in Harlem, became a different person when severe substance-abuse issues took hold of his life. "None of that was in G. Dep's nature. When there were certain things that he was going through with the substance-abuse situation, he would be a different person. But on an everyday [basis], he was probably one of the nicest, most quiet, shyest, most humble cats that was out there," he told Flex. "I was like, OK, maybe he was under the influence when he confessed. And then out of nowhere, they said he was convicted, which was such a shame, because he's such a great talent. And it all stemmed from substance abuse." Diddy also recently got a surprise when recording for the remix to Wale's "Slight Work." He was paired with his former right-hand man Mase, a platinum-selling rapper who was rumored to be a new signee of Ross' Maybach Music Group earlier this week. "Me and Mase are cool. We've kept in touch over the years. I love Mase," he told Flex of the MC who once retired to become a preacher. "If it wasn't for Mase, I wouldn't be where I was at today. Me and him were like Batman and Robin. So it felt good to get back on a record with him, and it's one of the hottest, most intense records in the club. That's what I specialize in. And then talking that talk." Last week Mase addressed a rumor that he might be signing with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group. "[Rico Love] just called and asked me to take a ride with him — I didn't know who was gonna be in the studio," Mase explained. "I got there and everybody was there, and they just said, 'Take a flick.' The next thing I know I got a Maybach chain, I got 20 beats from Kanye. The stories just keep getting crazier." T.I. Given More Travel Freedom On Probation

Grand Hustle CEO is dubbed a 'model probationer' by probation officer, and judge agrees.By Carter Maness T.I. Photo: Chris McKay/ Getty Images It appears the second time's the charm for T.I. Released last fall after an 11-month sentence for violating probation on his 2009 gun conviction, the Atlanta rapper has been on such good behavior that a judge has approved an expanded out-of-state travel allowance for up to 12 days at a time. According to TMZ, the request, submitted by T.I.'s probation officer, details that the rapper has been a "model probationer" since he was released from an Atlanta halfway house last September. By following all guidelines and completing a required drug and alcohol counseling program, Tip has been granted more freedom to travel and do business in other states. The expanded freedoms come at a convenient time, as T.I. is nearing the release of his eighth full-length album, Trouble Man. "The album is about 75 percent done. We got a lot of hot, old-school, vintage T.I. records on there," Tip told MTV News back in December while promoting his F--- Da City Up mixtape. "We got those over-the-top crossover records as well, big features and whatnot that we plan on putting into play. I got one with Akon, did a few records with Rico Love. Man, I got records with just about everybody," he said. "We just putting it together, we done did about 70 records." Trouble Man will include features from T.I.'s ever-expanding Grand Hustle empire. In February, he made some new additions to his roster in the form of Australian rapper Iggy Azalea and British rapper Chip, plus a joint venture with Houston MC Trae Tha Truth and his ABN label. "We're gonna work alongside each other for a common goal and release this Trae Tha Truth project," T.I. said of the deal with Trae. "When cats [who are] cut from a certain cloth give their word and shake their hand, that's what makes it a done deal — the ink is just a formality." Related Artists T.I.

More One Direction Name Suggestions: Direction 2.0, It's Complicated

Following the lawsuit from a same-named band, your Twitter suggestions for a new name keep pouring in!By Gil Kaufman One Direction Photo: Larry Busacca/ Getty Images It could be weeks, or months, before we find out what will happen with the $1 million lawsuit
against red-hot British boy band One Direction over their name. An unsigned American group who claims to have had the same name for several years has filed the suit seeking an injunction, so on Wednesday we set up the hashtag #New1DName and asked you to offer your suggestions for a new 1D moniker. In a statement obtained by MTV News, Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment responded to the suit, indicating that 1D fans have nothing to worry about. "There is a dispute with a local group in California about the ownership of the One Direction name in the US.," read the statement. "One Direction's management tried to resolve the situation amicably when the matter first came to light, but the Californian group has now filed a lawsuit claiming they own the name. One Direction's lawyers now have no choice but to defend the lawsuit and the band's right to use their name." And while plenty of you took the same stance as 1D's reps and said the band shouldn't and wouldn't budge, way more of you came up with some creative, silly and sometimes unprintable suggestions. Many of you played the numbers game: 5 Directions (@rachy__g), 5BoysStillBelieving and 5 Boys With a Dream (@AudrieLeung143), 1Dream (@My1Defulboys), The Perfect 5 (@1DSmile4ever), 5 UK White Boys (@DrunkHaymitchPN), 1Derful (@My1Defulboys), 5 Heart-Throbs (@1DSmile4ever) and 1Dful 5 (@idancewith2phit). Others went the (slightly) naughty, or cheeky route: Wander Action (pronounced quickly as "wonderaction") (@clairebear0011), One Erection (@ThreeDirectionz), Let's Make Simon Cowell Even Richer (@jj_watching), The Panty Parade (@DrunkHaymitchPN), Niall and the Leprecauns and Harry and the Pussy Cats (@MarisaDelynne), Genericteenboyband123 (@tdreeves), The Curly Girlies (@AshleighKathy) and 4 Brits and an Irish (@krystenwaddell). (And those are just the ones we could print!) There were plenty more variations on the original name: The Right Direction (@LatifaML), One Dimension (@KayleeMcNally), Direction 2.0 and UK Direction (@ThreeDirectionz), Forever Direction (@AudrieLeung143), Our Direction (@UniquelyJonas), The Sexy Direction (@ColiCristina_), UK One Direction (@Lisah961), On Direction (@AliceFxxx), One Detection (@its_nazzie), Fun Direction (@catocity), The Only Directions (@contAJAous), One End (@AliceFxxx), Route 1D (@jboogy259) and a slew of anagramatical head-scratchers from @fr0stypanda that included: Coin Oriented, Recited Onion, Cootie Dinner, Rice Noontide, Eco Rendition and Ironic Denote. And some of you just went for the cute, or the confusing: The Dark Side of Nothing and It's Complicated (@kenziecrooks53), Cutest Boyiz Eva (@amaff8), Perfection (@1d_caryl1029), Zappers (@VasZAPpening), Larry and the Jets (@MNneeds1D), The Raveeners (@LuvBieberand1D), GPS Boys (@DrunkHaymitchPN), The Young Wild and Free and Paul and the Gummy Bears (@ThreeDirectionz) and Paul's Piglets (@AshleighKathy). The Wanted's 'Glad You Came' Tops Pop Songs Chart

British group are first boy band to see a debut track hit #1 on Billboard's chart since Hanson in the '90s.By Jocelyn Vena The Wanted Photo: MTV News If you're one of those people who thinks the era of boy bands has come and gone — think again. After One Direction topped the Billboard charts with their debut album, Up All Night, the Wanted are also now chart-toppers. Their British group's cheeky, innuendo-filled single "Glad You Came," is currently the #1 song on the Billboard Pop Songs chart. The last time a boy band's debut track took the top spot on that chart was back in 1997 when Hanson's ubiquitous "Mmmbop" sat at #1 for eight weeks. In fact, it's been about a decade since any boy band managed hit that high on the Pop Songs chart. (O-Town nabbed the spot back in 2001 with "All or Nothing.") The Wanted are set to drop their debut U.S. album on April 24. Island Def Jam president and COO Steve Bartels commented on the popularity of the song, which has sold 1.5 million copies and placed at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Judging from the explosive reception to [the song] at radio and online, the appeal of that sound is as solid as ever, no matter how you describe it, a boy band or simply a male pop vocal group, which is what the Wanted is," he said. "We have seen proof of this over the past several weeks with sales and when the 'Glee' cast covered the song [on its February 21 episode]. No matter what name you give the Wanted's style, people of all ages have connected with the group. That connection is priceless." The guys are certainly not resting on their laurels. They opened up to MTV News last week about shooting the video for their new single, "Chasing the Sun." "We saw a lot of treatments and a lot of them took it literally: somewhere chasing the sun," Jay McGuiness told us. "But we decided we weren't into that. We worked with a director called Director X, so we know it's going to be a good party. But we'll leave the details until we release it." The guys also shared that they're hoping to get a rapper on a remix of the track. But the only clues they would give us was that the MC loves cats and it's not Cee Lo Green, who frequently chills with his cat Purrfect on "The Voice." What do you think of the Wanted?
