You could buy nearly seven million pair of Bulgari Bono sunglasses with the cash.By Gil Kaufman U2's Bono Photo: D. Dipasupil/ WireImage U2 singer Bono was already an obscenely wealthy man before Friday's (May 18) Facebook IPO
. But thanks to the 2.3 percent stake in the social networking site held by his Elevation Partners investment group (it is unknown how much of the Facebook take is directly held by Bono) it was reported that his nest egg could grow exponentially when Friday's first day of trading on the company's stock is over. The total haul? More than $1.5 billion
, which is not bad for a day's work. If those figures are true, he may become the richest rock star on Earth, sitting on a massive pile of green that could allow a man who already had the world at his fingertips to push into a rarified stratosphere that's the envy of the many one-percenters he already counts as friends. According to Rolling Stone the singer, who cannot sell all his shares at once, has pledged to use much of the money raised from his investments to aid charity work in Africa. What could $1.5 billion buy you? We broke it down, by-the-numbers: 1.3 million Bono has always made charity a big priority and one of his biggest pushes in recent years is the One Campaign and associated clothing and accessories lines (RED) and EDUN, which help stimulate trade with poverty stricken countries. With the Facebook cash, you could buy more than 13 million of the (RED) edition $1,109 Bugaboo Donkey Twin strollers. 6.9 million Famous for his signature Bulgari shades, if Bono were to get his hands on the full stash, he could hit the Amazon.com marketplace and get nearly seven million pair for cheap at $215.77 a piece. 12.5 The giant claw stage that U2 schlepped around the world for their record-setting 360 Tour was insanely expensive. With each of the three structures they built coming in at $40 million a piece, Bono could build nine more with the Facebook loot. 300,000 Speaking U2 tours, on their famous 1992 Zoo TV outing, one of the highlights were the blinged-out Trabant cars that were hung from the lighting rigs. The famously low-budget East German cars were never expensive, but if Bono were ever thinking of expanding his car collection, he could snatch up more than 300,000 1989 models for the money. 39.4 million: In the recent documentary, "From the Sky Down," U2 basically admitted that they'd gotten a bit full of themselves by the time their 1988 ode to Americana, Rattle and Hum, was released. If Bono is feeling especially embarrassed about all the cowboy hats and blues discovery of that era, he could try to wipe out some trace of it by buying nearly 40 million Blu-Ray copies of the DVD from Amazon. 'If Groucho Marx were alive today, he would probably make movies like 'The Dictator,' ' writes IndieWire's Eric Kohn.By Terri Schwartz
Sacha Baron Cohen in "The Dictator"
Photo: Paramount Pictures
Considering all of the appearances Sacha Baron Cohen has made recently as Wadiyan dictator Admiral General Aladeen, it's hard to believe anyone could have not heard of "The Dictator" yet. From to spilling at the Oscars, it doesn't seem like there's a line the "Brüno" star hasn't crossed yet. And to think, the movie has just come out today.
Though "The Dictator" ditches the tried-and-true formula of Baron Cohen's previous works ("Da Ali G Show," "Borat" and "Brüno"), reviewers don't think the shift to a scripted comedy detracts from its overall hilarity. Admiral General Aladeen is a crass, outrageous and hysterical satire, just like the other Baron Cohen characters that came before him. Besides, the film is still , according to leading lady Anna Faris, so it still feels a bit off the cuff.
So is the buzz surrounding "The Dictator" worth it? Keep reading to see what the critics had to say.
The Story
"Baron Cohen employs a comic range that ricochets between wicked political barbs and the lowest anatomical farce, to often funny and occasionally hilarious effect. This is his most conventionally formatted narrative film, without the pretense to catching people off-guard in real situations, and while it will prove too extreme for a portion of the mainstream public, Baron Cohen's fans should generally welcome it to good box-office returns." — Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter
The Laughs
"Even when sticking to a script, Sacha Baron Cohen leaves no target untouched: His new movie opens with a dedication to the memory of Kim Jong Il and closes with an anti-Semitic gag. If Groucho Marx were alive today, he would probably make movies like 'The Dictator,' British comedian Baron Cohen's latest subversive romp and searing showcase of crass global stereotypes. Transitioning back into a scripted dynamic after his quasi-documentary performance excursions with 'Brüno' and 'Borat,' Baron Cohen loses none of his edge, combining slapstick inspiration and social commentary into a hilariously provocative blend." — Eric Kohn, IndieWire
The Stars
"Cohen and his co-star Jason Mantzoukas have a very strong and funny chemistry, and they play a lot of the film's best scenes together. Anna Faris brings that same level of commitment that she always brings, and she earns some big laughs in the film. As with any rapid-fire comedy, supporting players get a chance to show up, score a few laughs, and then they're gone, and there's one sequence involving Kathryn Hahn that is so deranged both in conception and execution that I'm frankly amazed the film got its R rating without more edits." — Drew McWeeney, HitFix
The Chaplin Connection
"Comparisons to Chaplin's 'The Great Dictator' are inevitable, perhaps, but Baron Cohen doesn't really seem to have any kind of political agenda in mind. Aladeen is just another larger-than-life idiot in the comedian's repertoire, but there are plenty of laughs to be had at his expense." — Alonso Duralde, TheWrap
The Final Word
"As a comic stunt and a political statement, the film seems to exist to support its climax, in which the 'real' Aladeen tries to sell America on the perks of a dictatorship but ends up illuminating America itself. ('Your media would appear free but be secretly controlled by one person and his family!' 'You could fill your prisons with one particular racial group!') As a punchline hammering home the film's core polemic — basically, that 'freedom' and 'tyranny' aren't black and white or mutually exclusive — it's pretty great. But it doesn't justify the film-long setup that precedes it. It suggests what could have been had Baron Cohen and [director Larry] Charles played the material a little straight and given the movie's world stronger ties to our real world. Great satire, after all, is funny because it's true." — Karina Longworth, The Village Voice

Justin Bieber, Flo Rida, Lady Antebellum and Hall & Oates also perform leading up to Team Blake's victory.By James Dinh Blake Shelton and Jermaine Paul celebrate on "The Voice" Photo: NBC Universal Records added a new artist to their roster Tuesday night (May 8) when Jermaine Paul of Team Blake was named season-two champ during the finale of "The Voice," which also featured some major star power appearances from the likes of Justin Bieber and Flo Rida. "I just wanted to say thank you for everyone that voted for me," the former Alicia Keys backup singer said on the sparkler-filled stage, before giving credit to his wife, children and parents. "God bless y'all, man. Nobody but Jesus, man, nobody!" It was a close call, as host Carson Daly revealed just moments before the announcement that only a mere 4 percentage points separated Paul and runner-up Juliet Simms. Kicking off the two-hour episode was a brief contestant introduction with Paul, Simms, singer/songwriter Tony Lucca and classically trained Chris Mann, before segueing into a recap of the previous night's live final round and some thoughts from each of the judges about their contestant. But it wouldn't be a big ol' finale without some collaborative performances from our season's favorite former contestants, so Paul rallied up Jamar Rogers, James Massone and Pip to lead the pack on a cover of the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back." It was a solid effort that most importantly proved why Paul stands as the last remaining singer of the bunch and won the contest. After a montage of silly bloopers from the panel (proving that Xtina is surely more than just full of sass) and a quick commercial break, Simms of Team Cee Lo joined Flo Rida for a medley of his singles "Whistle" and "Wild One." Missing in action was singer Sia, but Simms took over for the Australian crooner's chorus, temporarily walked away from her rock element and jumped to some fist-pumping Top 40. Team Xtina's Chris Mann brought back his lady favorites Lindsey Pavao and Katrina Parker for an appropriate cover of the Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony," and the couple complemented Mann's lively onstage urgency. It may have been an intense evening for the contestants, but "The Voice" kept the show lighthearted by dedicating an entire segment to Shelton and Levine's on-camera bromance with highlights of their cutesy interactions. "It is clear that Adam has a crush on me, and Miranda is a little bit jealous, but I think it's cute," Shelton joked about wife Miranda Lambert. Hall & Oates were up next to sing their classic "Rich Girl" alongside the men of the evening: Tony, Jermaine and Chris. As the duo jammed out to their 1977 hit, the trio of finalists crooned on the side as background vocalists to the iconic act. Living out one more performance were former contestants Naia Kete, Cheesa, Kim Yarbrough and Sera Hill with a performance of "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder. Full of energy, attitude and smiles, the quartet blended their distinctive voices for a great number. But it wasn't enough to outshine Juliet Simms' group performance alongside Erin Willett, RaeLynn and Jamar Rogers for a cover of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends." It was the best of the all-star performances and brought all the judges to their feet for standing ovations. NBC doubled up when they brought some buzz for the season finale of "Parks and Recreation" as Cee Lo took to the set of the comedy sitcom and had the cast cater to his guest appearance and, of course, the famed swivel chair. Lady Antebellum repped for country music when they appeared for a performance of "Wanted You More," but the biggest rumble of cheers went to Justin Bieber, who served up a flashy debut performance of his hit "Boyfriend." As teased a few weeks ago, the teen superstar took the stage for an elaborate production of his lead single. Entering through the floor, the pop singer walked down an alley of bright lights and spent much of the number as the center of attention for a crew of dancers with misty smoke seeping in between his choreography. Before the Biebster took center stage, Team Adam's Tony Lucca re-emerged for his main number of the night with Jordis Unga to sing Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way." It was a friendly throwback to the competition's battle rounds, as the two played off each other's lines and catered to different parts of the stage before joining together for an ending hug. Beyoncé's little sister had her own showstopping moment at the annual fashion event in NYC. By Christina Garibaldi
Nina Dobrev at Monday night's Met Gala in New York
Photo: Getty Images
The annual Costume Institute Gala in New York has been called the Oscars of the East, but the "Super Bowl of Fashion" might be more appropriate. Fashion's finest collided with Hollywood's A-list at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art to honor renowned designers Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli. And of course, the fashion-forward event did not disappoint. Dramatic dresses, which were paired with feather accents, see-through lace and overwhelming trains, seemed to be the trend.
It's a night to take risks, make a statement and get noticed, so who did it best and who maybe missed the mark? We break down the night's showstopping looks as well as the most questionable gowns from the carpet.
Dazzling Fashionistas
Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan Atelier
Actress Nina Dobrev made her first Met Gala appearance in a stunning black-and-gold Donna Karan Atelier gown. The "Vampire Diaries" star turned heads in the chiffon one-shoulder number, which she accessorized with simple earrings and a swept-hair look. But it was the dramatic train and low back that made this an absolute win. "It was the low back and it was an absolutely stunning," Celebuzz producer Rachel Maresca told MTV News. "The train — you couldn't keep your eyes off her train."
Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy
Of course, everyone was talking about Beyoncé in her stunning Givenchy haute couture gown, but little sister Solange Knowles definitely had her own moment at the annual event. Knowles wore a bold peplum-structured canary-yellow gown, with minimal accessories, and wore her hair in a sea of curls reminiscent of Diana Ross.
Cameron Diaz in Stella McCartney
Actress Cameron Diaz simply sparkled in one of the big trends of the night: a backless dress. Diaz strutted down the carpet in the champagne gown made of thousands of glass beads, hugging her gorgeous figure. "I loved it," Maresca said. "It's shiny, sparkly. When she walked up the red steps, her dress kind of flowed, she was shimmering and her hair looked great, it was swept up. She looked really beautiful."
Stars That Didn't Shine as Bright
Eva Mendes in Prada
Eva Mendes wore another big style of the night, the peplum-waisted gown. The tangerine silk dress could have been a best-dressed contender if not for the stone-embroidered bustier. "I didn't love it. I loved the color. It was a great spring/May color. It was orange, it popped," Maresca said. "But the top, whatever those accessories were, it looked like a science project. It was too much."
Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen
From the runway to the red carpet, Florence Welch was head-to-toe in an Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 embroidered tiered dress that she accessorized with matching sandals. Even though Welch seemed to be having fun wearing the dress, it overpowered her with its massive amount of detail.
Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katrantzou
Elizabeth Banks may have thought she was dressing as her "Hunger Games" character, Effie Trinket, at the ball. The Katrantzou peplum gown created a multi-structured look with a high neckline and a thigh-high slit. "It was distracting, first and foremost. [It] had the peplum style but it was like a Judy Jetson style almost. It was like from the future — you could barely look at all the directions that the dress was going in," Maresca said.
