Johnny Keyser, Lauren Gray Wow 'American Idol' Panel

Reis Kloeckner, Ethan Jones and Rachelle Lamb also fly through to Hollywood.By Adam Graham Steven Tyler on "American Idol" Photo: FOX In popular music, St. Louis might be known as the home of Chuck Berry or Nelly, but in the world of "American Idol," it's the city that hosted Carrie Underwood's audition. "Idol" returned to the Gateway to the West on Thursday (February 2), hoping to find the show's next megastar. And they got off on the right foot with contestant Johnny Keyser, 22, from Pompano Beach, Florida, who blew the judges away with his rendition of Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come." "Should we just vote now?" Steven Tyler asked only a few bars into the song. Keyser was quickly sped through to Hollywood and set a good tone for St. Louis. As did Lauren Gray, who works at her family's one-stop wedding shop and sings in a wedding band with her father. Gray's version of Adele's "One and Only" left Jennifer Lopez's mouth agape and had Randy Jackson calling her "fearless." Lopez called her "one of the best female voices we've heard" and the three of them sent her on her way to Hollywood; later, when summing up the St. Louis auditions, Lopez said, "I have two words for today: Lauren Gray." In all, 46 contestants were passed through to the Hollywood round. Among them was 20-year-old Reis Kloeckner, whose version of "Lean on Me" brought a tear to Tyler's eye. "That was so beautiful. You made me cry. That's how good that was just now," Tyler said. Lopez and Jackson agreed and sent the pizza maker — whose name is pronounced "Reese" — through to the next round. Next up was 22-year-old Ethan Jones of Pontoon Beach, Illinois, a singer in a country band who belted out Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" and bled through his audition, due to a cut on his forehead he accidentally opened up while in the waiting room. (Seriously, no one had a Band-Aid?) Jones earned three yes votes from the judges and hopefully stopped bleeding somewhere on the way to Hollywood. Rachelle Lamb, meanwhile, joined Portland auditioner Britnee Kellogg by singing a song directed toward an ex who did her wrong. The 26-year-old construction worker sang Faith Hill's "Dearly Beloved" (which she referred to as "Find Somebody New") and earned a passing grade from the judges; maybe she and Kellogg can team up come Hollywood. With the audition phase now over — in voice-over, Ryan Seacrest called them "the most successful road auditions we've ever had" — the dreaded/ feared/ beloved Hollywood Week kicks off next week. What did you think of Thursday's "Idol"? Were these "the most successful road auditions ever"? Let us know in the comments! 'American Idol' Finds Reed Grimm, Hallie Day In Pittsburgh

Samantha Novacek, Creighton Fraker and Eben Franckewitz also stand out.By Adam Graham Judges on "American Idol" Photo: FOX "American Idol" continued its kindness streak Thursday (January 19), handing out 38 Golden Tickets during its Pittsburgh audition rounds. Furthermore, of the 11 singers showcased during the hour-long program, 10 made it through to Hollywood. (Where have you gone, William Hungs of the world? Come back, Renaldo Lapuz!) Even the auditions that looked like they were going to be joke auditions turned out to be authentic. Case in point: Samantha Novacek, who came before the judges joined by her sister, who insists on planking while she sings. So before Novacek tore into Faith Hill's "Like We Never Loved at All," sister Patricia laid down in front of her, head up, arms at her side. (Before you criticize "Idol" for being late to the meme, remember the audition was taped over the summer.) Planking or no, the vocals were there, and when the 19-year-old breezed through to Hollywood, Novacek's entire family celebrated by planking in the lobby. Our only question: Does the sister get to come to Hollywood too? Another standout on Thursday's show was 15-year-old Eben Franckewitz, whom producers made sure to throw the Bieber tag on early. (Granted, he did have a haircut that recalled the Biebs.) The Milford, Ohio, resident rode to the audition with his perfectly supportive parents and knocked his rendition of "Ain't No Sunshine" out of the park. "You definitely have a God-given gift that is pretty amazing and spot-on," Randy Jackson told him, sending him (and his Bieber coif) through to the next round. Reed Grimm brought wily soul to the "Family Matters" theme song (!), culled from his many years onstage (the 26-year-old has been in a family band since he was 2) and was instantly zipped through to Hollywood. Even Urkel would have been proud. Creighton Fraker, 28, of Queens, New York, didn't know what he was going to sing for the judges, so he decided to do a song he made up on his way to the audition. There wasn't much there in the way of lyrics — the song just sort of awkwardly name-dropped the judges — but thankfully "Idol" is a singing contest and not a songwriting one, and the judges were so impressed with his vocals that they did one of those things where they throw out crazy percentages in front of their "yes" votes to quantify how much they like him. (Steven Tyler won by giving him a "3 gazillion percent yes.") Jennifer Lopez commented the Queens native is like if Jamiroquai and Justin Timberlake had a baby, which, weird? But Tyler better summed up the judges' enthusiasm, gushing, "Dude, you are so Hollywood!" The show closed with 24-year-old Hallie Day of Baltimore, a high school dropout who crawled back from a suicide attempt several years ago and thrilled the judges with her strong vocals on Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive." "She could win," mused Lopez, who's already taken to calling Day "Blondie." Other contestants who passed on to Hollywood on Thursday's show: Heejun Han, 22, of Flushing, New York, who sang a surprisingly soulful version of "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You," made even more surprising by the fact that he had never sang in front of his family; 27-year-old Aaron Marcellus from Teaneck, New Jersey, who took on Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and came out a winner; and 20-year-old Chase Likens of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, whose version of Lady Antebellum's "Love Don't Live Here" stood out from the pack. "American Idol" continues Sunday with the San Diego audition rounds, following the NFC Championship Game on Fox. What did you think of Thursday's round of "Idol" auditions? People's Choice Awards Preview: 'Hunger Games' Cast, Demi Lovato, More Set To Hit Stage

Demi Lovato and stars of "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" also on star-studded lineup for show airing tonight on CBS at 9 p.m. ET.By John Mitchell Jennifer Lawrence Photo: Dan Kitwood/Getty Images The People's Choice Awards may be one of the more democratic awards shows of the season. After all, it's fans, and not a faceless "academy" of industry professionals that decide who'll take home the big PCA prizes in categories like Favorite Tour Headliner, Favorite TV Celebreality Star and Favorite Movie Star Under 25. And it's all happening tonight at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Host Kaley Cuoco, herself a nominee for her turn on "The Big Bang Theory," promised a fun-filled evening, telling Ryan Seacrest on his radio show, "I'm really looking forward to it and there are a lot of great musical numbers and it's going to be fun." She also joked with the "American Idol" host that she plans on "changing 47 times, 47 dresses. I'm changing every 5 minutes. I want to go down in the Hall of Fame with that. So we'll see how many times I can possibly change." So who can fans expect to see on the red carpet? Only some of the biggest A-listers from the worlds of film, TV and music, including "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Ashley Greene; "Hunger Games" leads Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson; as well as Emma Stone, Vanessa Hudgens, Chloe Grace Moretz, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, Julianne Hough and "Glee" stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith. Also expected to attend are Dan Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Tom Felton of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," which leads all nominees this year. "Potter" heads into the awards with nine nominations for Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie, Favorite Actor (Radcliffe), Favorite Movie Star Under 25 (Radcliffe, Grint, Felton and Watson), Favorite Ensemble Movie Cast and Favorite Book Adaptation. One notable absence is nominee Katy Perry, who was set to make her first public appearance following the announcement of her divorce from Russell Brand at tonight's live event but cancelled earlier this week. She apologized to her fans on Twitter, writing, "Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS." Perry is nominated for a whopping seven People's Choice Awards, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Song of the Year ("E.T."), Favorite Pop Artist, Favorite Animated Movie Voice ("The Smurfs") and Favorite Music Video for "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." PCA executive producer Mark Burnett clearly sympathizes with Perry's decision not to attend, telling E! News that her choice was completely "understandable." The show will include musical performances from Faith Hill and Demi Lovato as well as comedy sketches featuring Jimmy Fallon, Jane Lynch and the casts of "Parks and Recreation" and Cuoco's own "The Big Bang Theory." Among the other major nominees are "Bridesmaids," "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," "The Help," "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and "Potter" for Favorite Movie. Ryan Reynolds, Pattinson, Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman, and Radcliffe will vie for Favorite Movie Actor, while Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon are squaring off for Favorite Movie Actress. In the music categories, the Favorite Male and Female Artist races are a who's who of MTV favorites, including Eminem, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Perry, Adele, new mom Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. The Song of the Year race includes Gaga's "The Edge of Glory," LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger," Perry's "E.T." and MTV's Best Song of 2011, Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." Who are you rooting for on the 2011 People's Choice Awards? Tell us in the comments! Catch the People's Choice Awards tonight at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Amy Winehouse Looks Healthy, Happy In 'Body And Soul' Video

Clip for Tony Bennett duet premiered this morning, on what would have been singer's 28th birthday.nBy Gil Kaufman Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse Photo: Getty Images Nearly two months after her shocking death, the final video and song recorded by late British soul star Amy Winehouse dropped on Wednesday (September 14), and it shows the "Rehab" singer in fine form. The duet with jazz icon Tony Bennett on the standard "Body and Soul" premiered at 6 a.m. on MTV, VH1, MTV Hits and mtvU and will be repeated on an hourly basis throughout the morning, after which it will be available online on MTV.com. The clip opens with Bennett taking the lead as Winehouse looks on coquettishly, often seen in soft focus as the elder statesman sings, "My heart is sad and lonely/ For you I sigh, for you dear only/ Why haven't you seen it/ I'm all for you body and soul." And then it's Winehouse's turn, as the singer known for her often shambolic live performances is seen on her best behavior, focusing in on the lines "I spend my days in longing/ And wondering why it's me you're wronging/ I tell you I mean it/ I'm all for you body and soul." The video footage of the two singing together is bittersweet, with Winehouse looking healthy and alert, twirling her hair flirtatiously as she matches Bennett note for note on the standard. Wearing a short black skirt and one of the plaid sweaters from her Fred Perry fashion collection, her hair in a signature bouffant and her lids smeared with Cleopatra-style cat-eye mascara, a smiling Winehouse holds her own with Bennett and seems to enjoy the challenge of working with the icon. After moving her arms around nervously while singing, at one point Winehouse kisses her golden necklace, then looks up and points to the ceiling. The song will appear on Bennett's Duets II project, which is due out on Tuesday and also features songs with Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, Queen Latifah, Willie Nelson, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Faith Hill, Josh Groban, Aretha Franklin and Michael Bublé. Throughout the clip, Winehouse flashes bedroom eyes at the 85-year-old crooner, twists her hair in a flirty fashion and patiently awaits her verses, with both singers reading their lines expertly off the sheet music. Bennett is often caught looking longingly at Winehouse, with cut-away shots finding them locking eyes and laughing between takes and sitting in the control room and listening back to the track. At the end, Bennett, stylish in a black tuxedo, holds the final note alongside Winehouse, who does a girlish curtsy before giving him a big hug. The song and video were released on what would have been Winehouse's 28th birthday, and they coincide with the launch of the Amy Winehouse Foundation UK, which was set up following her death to benefit those struggling with drug and alcohol abuse and poverty. The mission statement of the organization is to "support charities and organisations undertaking charitable activities in both the United Kingdom and abroad who help, support, or care for young people — especially but not exclusively those who are in need by reason of ill health, disability, fi nancial disadvantage or addiction." "I was in New York when I received the terrible news about Amy," said her father, Mitch, in a statement announcing the launch of the charity. "It was almost instantaneous, this feeling that we need to help people she cared about. Amy was very generous and we kept coming back to the thought of how much she loved children. It seemed appropriate that the focus of our work should be with young people, those who are vulnerable either through ill health or circumstance. Amy touched millions throughout the world and I know she will continue to, through the Foundation." Her mother, Janis, added, "We want to give money to projects that make a direct difference. It is a source of great comfort to know that Amy would be proud of this and right behind it." The first major donations to the Foundation will come from sales of the "Body and Soul" track.
