Baton Rouge rapper dodges a life sentence in 2009 murder case.By Nadeska Alexis Lil Boosie Photo: Asylum After a week of testimony and deliberation in a murder trial stemming from a 2009 case, jurors in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, found rapper Lil Boosie (born Torrence Hatch) not guilty of a first-degree murder charge on Friday (May 11). The rapper was facing life in prison if convicted. Boosie is currently serving an eight-year sentence for non-related drug charges, but WBRZ reported that the 29-year-old was able to beat seemingly insurmountable odds in a murder trial in which he was accused of ordering primary witness Michael "Marlo Mike" Louding to murder Terry Boyd. The 35-year-old was shot to death in his home in Baton Rouge in October 2009. On the third day of testimony in the Boosie trial, 19-year-old Louding took the stand and backtracked on his previous confession of being hired to kill Boyd. He claimed instead that he had never confessed to law enforcement about the murder, adding that he was with Hatch and getaway driver Adrienne Pitman at the rapper's house on the night of the shooting. The prosecution came under fire for using Boosie's violent lyrics to incriminate him in the case, even pointing to Louding's tattoo of an AK-47, with the script "Yo Boosie Who's Next?" as proof that the two had conspired. Meanwhile, the defense aimed to paint a picture of Boosie as an artist who let too many strangers into his inner circle without knowing their true intentions. On Wednesday morning, an IT specialist took the stand to testify about the contents of the Baton Rouge rapper's computer. The expert pinpointed a photo of a tattoo parlor, which was related to the investigation, but no details were given on how his testimony might have affected the case. Throughout the trial, several officers were questioned, including one who revealed that Boosie was not considered a suspect until his name was brought up during Louding's confession. While prosecutors argued that Louding's admissions and cell phone records were proof that he committed the crime, Boosie's defense attorneys countered that the confession was a lie, prompted by hours of interrogation. 'There's a little chip on my shoulder,' frontman Aaron Bruno tells MTV News of writing the follow-up to the band's Megalithic Symphony.By James Montgomery AWOLNATION's Aaron Bruno Photo: MTV News AWOLNATION's Aaron Bruno already knows how he wants the follow-up to his band's breakout (and epically titled) Megalithic Symphony album to sound. The key now is finding the time to actually write it. "I think the next record will be a little more raw, and a little more aggro, and a little stranger, but still have the nursery-rhyme feel of melody, because that's the only way I know how to write," he told MTV News. "I'm working on it now [while the band is on tour] and, really, it's the only thing keeping me sane. Every day I wake up, and I'm so excited to first of all find a shower, and then have a coffee, and then do a couple of other things that I probably can't mention, and then open up the computer and just see what happens. ... It's a nice break from the routine [of] playing the same old songs, meeting the same people, waking up at the same venues, same parking lots across the country." Yes, such is life for AWOLNATION, who went from relative unknowns to rock-radio monsters based on a relentless tour schedule and the strength of hit singles "Sail" and "Not Your Fault." Since bursting onto the radar, Bruno has seemingly spent every waking minute on the road, and it doesn't look like that will change much anytime soon (AWOL are currently touring until the end of July). So needless to say, he's itching to break the cycle and get into the studio to begin work on the new album. And no, he's not about to shy away from the expectations that come with following a hit album. "I got a little chip on my shoulder with the songwriting and I've got a lot to say about the world, so there's a little bit of a fist on this new record that I'm excited about," he said. "I've always been the underdog my whole life, and the guys in my band, we all came up in the same situation, so this success is totally new and foreign for us, so I want to maintain the hunger of being the underdog and never feel complacent with the success and always want to reach more ears. Not necessarily to make money, but because I feel the music's important." And while Bruno's relishing the opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong, he's also trying to stop and appreciate just how far his band has come. Of course, given his nature, that's proving to be easier said than done. "All of this seems like a joke to me. It doesn't seem real. I wake up every day and I have to remind myself ... this is really happening, it's OK to enjoy it," he laughed. "But I've had a hard time doing that because I'm constantly focused on the next thing." 'There's a twist at the end,' Miranda Cosgrove teases MTV News of new show, airing Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on Nickelodeon.By Jocelyn Vena Miranda Cosgrove on the set of "iCarly" Photo: MTV News This week's episode of "iCarly" is taking a stab at the world of computer sales at an Apple-esque store. If that doesn't sound like a fascinating plotline, the cast assures fans that there will be zany antics, some friendly rivalry and even some romance. We bet you never thought all that intrigue could squeeze its way in there! "Today, we are on the set of 'iCarly' and we are shooting some scenes for an episode called 'I Work for Pear,' " Jennette McCurdy, who plays Sam, told MTV News about the episode. "[My character] Sam ends up getting hired for the job, because she's so good with the customers and at selling things. Mad trouble ensues because Freddie's mad at Sam. Sam's not meant to work. "The Sam and Freddie relationship has been explored on many fronts," McCurdy continued about her link to Nathan Kress' character. "There was the first few seasons where they were bickering constantly, and then there was some touching on a relationship, which, let me tell you, was a real treat for us ... it wasn't awkward at all," she joked about their brother/sister relationship. It seems that Kress was hoping to escape to the Pear store to indulge in his love for computers. "I can't really think of any better place for Freddie to go since he's such a computer nerd than to be at the mecca of computer-nerd salesmen," he said. "There's some really big complicated scenes, because all of us are there, but we each have our own story lines." For the show's leading lady, Miranda Cosgrove, she notes that Carly Shaw found something other than computers to keep her intrigued at Pear. "In this episode of 'iCarly,' Freddie gets a job at the Pear store, and shortly after, he's absolutely in shock, because he finds out that Sam gets a job at the Pear store as well," she said. "My part on the episode is, I'm crushing on a geeky guy who's really sweet, and then there's a twist at the end." While she couldn't say what the twist is, Noah Munck, who plays Gibby, had this guarantee: "It is definitely a hilarious episode." The show airs Saturday night at 8 p.m. Are you looking forward to a trip to the "iCarly" Pear store? Let us know in the comments!

Fight coordinator Jonathan Eusebio leads MTV News through the biggest battles.By Kevin P. Sullivan

As you're watching "The Avengers" on the big screen, it's easy to forget that the heroes you see fighting the alien invaders are actually paid actors and that those actors learned their moves not from a secret government agency like S.H.I.E.L.D., but from fight coordinator Jonathan Eusebio.
Eusebio spoke with MTV News in the lead-up to Marvel's ultimate crossover to walk us through each key fight scene.
There are some minor spoilers ahead, so if you haven't seen "The Avengers" yet, consider yourself warned.
Black Widow in Chair
"Joss [Whedon] already had in his head how he wants the fight to look and how he thinks she would get out of this situation. He gave us notes on what he wants, and we design the fight around those notes. We choreograph it. We show it to him. There are more notes, and we just keep changing it until he's 100 percent happy.
"The chair makes it interesting. You need some kind of gimmick to make the fight different and to give it some interesting story point. Her being strapped to a chair and being interrogated, we already have the premise set out for us. We just have to be inventive on how to get her out.
"The hardest part is that it's very hard to be mobile, even moving around fighting with that thing strapped to your back. There are a lot of things that have to go along with it. We have to find the right chair at the right height, so that we can stand with it, that we can move around with it."
Thor vs. Iron Man vs. Captain America
"With those kinds of fights that involve a lot of digital effects, we have the base things outlined. When they're actually interacting with each other, that's our job with the stunt people. When Iron Man and Thor are throwing each other around up in the air, there's kind of a handoff from practical people to computer-generated people. Each department has to work together to make it seamless.
"What makes it interesting is all of them there together; you're trying to do your best to stay true to what people identify as their characteristics. There's no one character that I find more fascinating. What's interesting is the dynamic between five or six people and keeping them different enough to make it fresh."
Hawkeye vs. Black Widow
"The thing about these two characters is that they're not superhuman in the sense that the other superheroes are, so you just have these two agents with vast skill sets. For Jeremy [Renner] and Scarlett [Johansson], they had to really train hard because they're not just fighting aliens or computer-generated guys; they're fighting each other also. A lot of their training involved them working out together quite a bit.
"We cover a mix of different martial arts, but more practical martial arts, a mix of karate, jujitsu, judo, Pilipino martial arts, muay Thai boxing. It's a bunch of different elements of a bunch of practical martial arts."
Hulk vs. Thor
"The Hulk is completely computer-generated, but Chris Hemsworth had to actually interact with a person during that whole skirmish. We had a stunt double for the Hulk, so Chris was interacting with him the whole time you see the Hulk onscreen. The Hulk's also three or four feet taller than Thor is, so visual effects had to keep reminding us, 'This is where the Hulk's head is. This is how long the Hulk's reach is.' We had to work side-by-side with them for that whole sequence."
The Big Finale
"We had a team of 20 or so stunt men for the whole run of the movie. Not only did we have doubles for all the actors, but for Loki's army, we had a whole crop of stunt men, 10 to 12 core guys. All we did is choreograph huge action pieces for the whole last sequence. When that sequence actually came up, we already had really good pieces choreographed and rehearsed with most of the actors and the stunt people.
"It was really good that the actors trained really hard. There were some days that were tough and we had to make stuff up on the spot, and not just individual one-on-one type pieces. It would be pieces where it's eight-on-one, and the actors would pick it up on the spot, that day. I was pretty proud of the fact that they could adapt to changes on the spot. There's a Thor-Captain America team-up in the street, that one we pieced together pretty quick the day before we were going to shoot it. I think that turned out really good."

'I was amazed at the level of artistry; people have spent hours doing it,' British actor tells MTV News.By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Benedict Cumberbatch Photo: MTV News British actor Benedict Cumberbatch is so hot right now. He is almost literally in everything, including last year's awards-season favorites "War Horse" and "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," the hit BBC/PBS revival of "Sherlock" and two highly anticipated future blockbusters "Star Trek 2" and "The Hobbit." Cumberbatch fans should be excited to see him reprise his role as the quirky and slightly sociopathic Sherlock Holmes when the second season premieres this Sunday (May 6) on PBS's Masterpiece. MTV News recently caught up with the very busy and talented actor, who attributes the show's success to its "extraordinary" and "very intelligent, very loyal" fans and promised that they won't be disappointed with the action that unfolds in the second season. Speaking of those intelligent fans, we asked Cumberbatch if he was aware of the extensive collection of creative and explicit fan fiction that has surfaced online since the premiere of the show's first season. "I am startlingly aware of it," Cumberbatch said with a smile. "I don't go seeking it, but Martin Freeman, who was an absolute luddite on the first series, suddenly came back from New Zealand having done a little radio short drama called "The Hobbit," he came back and he had this beautiful Mac [computer] with him and said 'Hey, look at this Tumblr.' And I said, 'What? Tumblr? What?' He knows more about it than I do and he was showing me some of them. Some of it is really racy, un-viewable even on MTV. It's cool." The charming Brit went on to say that he is flattered by a few of the depictions he's come across and that he's amazed how much time some fans have put into their work. "I suppose my bodily proportions are quite flattering. I'm ripped, doing something I wouldn't normally do with my body, or having done to it, involving Watson," he said cheekily. "So that's as far as I'll hit about that one, but it's all there on the Web if you want to find it. I was amazed at the level of artistry; people have spent hours doing it. And there's some really weird cross breeding stuff that goes on. The news got out that I was playing Smaug in 'Hobbit' and suddenly there were lots of dragons with purple scarves flying around so it's crazy, it's crazy." Young Money rapper throws a futuristic beach party in Anthony Mandler-directed clip.By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj in her "Starships" music video Photo: Universal Music Group Yes, starships were meant to fly, and rap's reigning queen was clearly meant to don a bikini and throw raving beach parties. Nicki Minaj finally released her "Starships" video Thursday night (April 26), and all her Barbz were invited to an electric beach party. The Anthony Mandler-directed clip begins with a computer-generated UFO circling a tranquil Hawaiian island looking for a soft spot to land. While the natives lie on the beach, Ms. Minaj gets beamed down into the shallow waters sporting green hair and a sexy pink bathing suit. It was back in March when pictures from the set first made their way online, and now that the video is finally here, it was clearly worth the wait. To see the Young Money starlet in motion is a thing of beauty. Not only does the curvaceous rap star frolic in the water, she then crawls through the sand on all fours creating a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue sort of moment. The Minaj idol worship is in full effect as buff and tattooed male servants carry her around the island like the queen she is, but as the beat on the RedOne-produced dance hit picks up, so does the video's action. By the time the song's electro breakdown kicks in, the party gets jumping and Mandler employs a groovy kaleidoscope visual effect, which precisely captures the track's energy. The clip climaxes as bonfires are set, flaming staffs are twirled and body paint is tossed about. Nicki parties hard with her flock jumping up and down, fist-pumping and dancing the night away. There's no grand story line or deep, hidden meaning; instead the Harajuku Barbie simply offers up a good time. The "Starships" video isn't exactly rocket science, it's just fly — exactly how it was meant to be. What do you think of Nicki Minaj's "Starships" video? Share your reviews in the comments!
