Zac Efron's 'The Lucky One' also beat out 'Games' over the weekend.By Ryan J. Downey Meagan Good and Romany Malco in "Think Like a Man" Photo: Screen Gems Productions In the end, it wasn't any sort of dastardly villain who conquered the heroes of "The Hunger Games." No, the four-week box-office reign of the adaptation of the popular YA novel was ended by none other than Steve Harvey and Zac Efron, whose respective new movies performed quite impressively over the weekend. "Think Like a Man" was #1 with a $33 million opening, boasting a higher per-screen average than any other movie with a nationwide release thus far this year, save for "Games" and "Dr. Seuss the Lorax." With a story based on the lessons given in comedian Steve Harvey's self-help tome "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," the film gave Screen Gems their second-best opening (behind "The Vow") and third #1 in 2012 so far. Screen Gems only spent a reported $13 million making "Think Like a Man." Many industry watchers predicted an opening at least $10 million lower, more in line with the intake of the #2 movie at the box office this week, "The Lucky One." The Zac Efron-led tearjerker opened with $22.8 million. That's much higher than Efron's "Charlie St. Cloud" ($12.4 million) though somewhat less than "17 Again" ($23.7 million). It's the second-biggest opening for a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks book, behind "Dear John" ($30.5 million). Box Office Mojo noted that "The Lucky One" actually sold more tickets than "The Notebook" too, though it earned less actual cash. "The Lucky One" was pretty unlucky with critics, however. Richard Roeper called it "well-acted schmaltz with some gaping plot holes." Eric D. Snider described "The Lucky One" as "exactly the kind of sappy hogwash that Efron's detractors think is the only thing he's capable of doing." The movie did receive a B+ CinemaScore from moviegoers who saw it, although 56 percent of them admitted that Efron was the main reason they went to see the film, according to the Los Angeles Times. "The Hunger Games" was #3 with $14.5 million for a five-week total of $356.9 million. The first in a planned trilogy, "Games" now sits at #19 on the list of all-time box-office grosses, right between "Jurassic Park" ($357 million) and the third "Transformers" movie, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" ($352.3 million). "The Hunger Games" has made more than any "Twilight" movie and is ahead of every "Harry Potter" flick except "Deathly Hallows, Part 2," which made $381 million. "Games" did manage to hold off one of the weekend's new films, "Chimpanzee," though the Disneynature film still managed the third-highest opening for a documentary ever. "Chimpanzee" was #4 with $10.2 million, placing it behind docs "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" ($29.5 million) and "Fahrenheit 9/11" ($23.9 million). "Chimpanzee" had a 77 percent "fresh" score on film review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. "Walt Disney himself couldn't have scripted 'Chimpanzee' any better," wrote Newsday's Rafer Guzman. The Washington Post's Michael O'Sullivan wrote, "one wonders whether more than a few viewers won't want to take home a baby chimp." The Farrelly brothers' take on "The Three Stooges" rounded out the top five with $9.2 million during its second weekend, bringing the comedy's total to $29.4 million. "Titanic 3-D" continued to top the international box office, bringing its overseas total to $225.7 million. "Battleship" has made $129.6 million abroad. Next weekend's new films include "The Raven," starring John Cusack as a fictionalized version of Edgar Allan Poe; Jason Stahtam action flick "Safe"; R-rated comedy "The Five-Year Engagement," from the team behind "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"; and animated kids' movie "Pirates! Band of Misfits." Check out everything we've got on "The Hunger Games" and "The Lucky One." For young Hollywood news, fashion and "Twilight" updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com. MTV News catches up with 'Twilight' stud after Best Male Performance win at the Movie Awards.By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards Photo: MTV News In the biggest non-surprise of the night, Robert Pattinson won the MTV Movie Award for Best Male Performance for the third year in a row. But the man himself was still shocked. "I really didn't think I was going to win. Zac Efron was crying and stuff in that clip!" Pattinson said during his acceptance speech, referring to his fellow nominee's performance in "Charlie St. Cloud." Still, he recognized that it was the fans who brought him the win yet again; his first win was in 2009 for "Twilight," and then again last year for "New Moon." "I'm consistently surprised, so thank you very much," he said. "I hope we see you all again next year." When MTV News caught up with the "Breaking Dawn" star after his big win, he was worried he dropped the ball a bit in his acceptance speech. "I'm just trying to come up with something funny to say to all of these. I pussied out on my first one and said nothing," Pattinson said with a laugh. Fortunately, the man better known as Edward Cullen followed up his Best Male Performance acceptance speech with a much stronger Best Fight one. He took to the stage with "Eclipse" co-stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Xavier Samuel and, after a moment's awkwardness, pulled out the humor. "Well, yeah, I won, ha!" Pattinson said as his acceptance. Howard turned to him, apologizing for her villainess role in "Eclipse" by saying, "I guess I should say: I'm so sorry I tried to kill you, Rob." "It's all right. I ripped your head off, and now you're pregnant!" he replied to the audience's laughter. MTV News has all of the highlights from the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. Although it pains him, actor chooses between Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner to take home the Golden Popcorn.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Jackson Rathbone Photo: MTV News Having a hard time trying to figure out who you'd like to win at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? "Breaking Dawn" star Jackson Rathbone is weighing in on his picks for Sunday's big show, and he's sticking with his Cullen brother Robert Pattinson to win it all. Rathbone is even staunchly Team Edward when it comes to Best Kiss, in which Kristen Stewart is up for getting it on with Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. "How do you decide which is the better kiss: Kris' kiss with Rob or Kris' kiss with [Lautner's] Jacob? Taylor or Rob I guess is what it breaks down to," he told MTV News earlier this week. "I'm gonna have to side with my brother and go with Rob there." Rathbone even dived into why Bella and Edward's kiss really resonated with him. "What is it about that kiss?" he pondered. "You know, to me, it was ... a long time coming [and] that understanding between two lovers, and I think there's a lot of pent-up sexual aggression there, being young and a vampire." Not only does Rathbone have to pick between Pattinson and Lautner for Best Kiss; the pair are also splitting votes for Best Male Performance, also going up against Daniel Radcliffe ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1"), Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network") and Zac Efron ("Charlie St. Cloud"). Of course, those three guys don't even count for Rathbone -- it's all about his "Eclipse" buds. "Best Male Performance? Rob or Taylor, once again this boils down to [them]," he said. "I love both guys ... but I'm gonna have to once again side with my family and go Robert Pattinson." Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Plus: Jason Sudeikis goes inside nominated movies, Steven Spielberg presents a 'Super 8' exclusive and more Act 1 inside scoop!By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson in "Eclipse" Photo: Summit In the last couple days leading up to the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, we've been all about bringing fans as close to the awards-show action as possible. The intrepid MTV News team working from the show's site in Universal City, California, has been privy to countless exclusive sneak peeks, like advance screenings of "Horrible Bosses," "The Help" and more during our Sneak Peek Week; the promise of an awesome "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" exclusive during the big show; and the very first look at "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1." If that isn't enough to get you to tune in Sunday, MTV News' Jim Cantiello tracked down the show's supervising producer, Jane Mun, to get inside info about what viewers can expect to see during the first act of the show. "In Act 1, we have Jason Sudeikis, our host, going in and out of our movies, but I can't tell you what [exactly] that is, because that's a surprise that we have to keep," Mun teased. "You'll notice right here a name [Taylor Lautner] on this board," she added, gesturing to a large poster board covered in different-colored pieces of paper, each with names of people and events that will occur during the telecast. "I can't spill the deets," Mun said when pressed about what the "Twilight" superstar will be doing onstage. Cantiello suggested that whatever Lautner does, it should be shirtless -- which Mun didn't confirm or deny. "Then we have Jason come out and greet the room and our viewers to a really awesome monologue, " Mun continued, adding that she's alerted her censor team that they might have some extra work during Sudeikis' opener. "I've already talked to the censors, and they are in for a treat," she said with a smile. The first award of the night will be Best Male Performance, which pits supernatural studs Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner ("The Twilight Saga: Eclipse") against each other and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1" star Daniel Radcliffe, Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network") and Zac Efron ("Charlie St. Cloud"). Who will come out on top? "Then, we just announced [Thursday] morning, is going to be the exclusive sneak peek of 'Super 8,' " with director J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg and stars Elle Fanning and Joel Courtney presenting. "And that is our Act 1!" Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Voting is now open for the 20th annual show, airing live on June 5 at 9 p.m. ET.By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" Photo: Summit For the second time in three years, the vampires of "Twilight" are leading the charge at the MTV Movie Awards. For this year's show, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's "Eclipse" flick nabbed eight nominations — including Best Movie, Best Fight and Best Kiss — narrowly besting the dream thieves of "Inception" (seven noms) and the wizards "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1" (six noms). All three films have all been nominated for Best Movie and will compete with "Black Swan" (four nods) and "The Social Network" (five nods) for the night's top prize. Hosted by Jason Sudeikis, the 20th annual 2011 MTV Movie Awards airs live on Sunday, June 5, at 9 p.m. ET, from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Pattinson vies for Male Performance with Radcliffe ("Deathly Hallows"), Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network"), Taylor Lautner ("Eclipse") and Zac Efron ("Charlie St. Cloud"). This year, MTV is introducing a new category, Best Line from a Movie, which pits the likes of Jessie Eisenberg in "Social Network" ("If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you'd have invented Facebook") against Tom Hardy in "Inception" ("You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling") and Alexys Nycole Sanchez in "Grown Ups" ("I want to get chocolate wasted").
